Shane Plays Geek Talk Episode #295 – 9/30/2026
This episode is dedicated to our friend, Green Lantern fan, stand-up comedian, certified Geek Lord, and all-around cool dude Michael Brown
“In brightest day, in blackest night,
No evil shall escape my sight.
Let those who worship evil’s might,
Beware my power, Green Lantern’s light!”
Shane and fellow GL fan Bill Brackeen geek out on all things Green Lantern and the Lanterns TV show. Green Lantern trivia (Golden Age, Silver Age, and beyond). The two most well-known Green Lantern oaths and interesting variations. What is the real-life inspiration for the lantern concept? The many things a GL power ring can do besides make constructs. Thoughts on the Emerald Twilight arc (and some behind-the-scenes details). Remembering HEAT: Hal’s Emerald Attack/Advancement Team. Guess who the Spectre is now? If you uncouple it from what they did to Hal, there are things about the Kyle Rayner storyline that Shane and Bill like. The influence of the Lensmen novels on the Silver Age Green Lantern. There’s much more to Guy Gardner’s history than most people realize. The vibrant richness and wonder of the Green Lantern Corps. Has Bill ever called someone a poozer? It’s getting a huge response, but what do Shane and Bill think of the Lanterns TV show? Shane’s main beef with Lanterns. Is Earl a nod to Hal’s old alien pet Itty? The post-Millennium New Guardians series was just weird. Just what exactly is that red stuff that comes out of Red Lantern mouths? Bill has no problem guessing who Shane’s favorite Red Lantern is. Out of all the superpowers in comic books, what would Shane choose? Shane and Bill both really hate what comics writer Tom King did to Adam Strange… and Bill is pretty much opposed to him in general (Tom King is involved with the Lanterns TV show). The superhero genre didn’t always dominate comics. Comics are a unique medium (even down to how we mentally interact with them). Thoughts on why comic books (or at least movies and TV shows based on them) are currently so huge in pop culture. This episode is dedicated to Shane’s friend and Green Lantern lover Michael Brown (who actually loves that punk hero Aquaman even more than GL).
